the saga continues
When I left you earlier today, Brian was trying to get out of work early so we could go back to The Cornerstone and see the place again. Well, we ended up going at 4:00, and this time we brought the camera:

It's not the actual apartment that we would have been applying for - it's a model, that obviously is furnished so you can get an idea of how things would all fit. Note the washer and dryer tucked neatly away in a closet, with shelving.
Anyway so we saw the place, and then the property manager let us have some time to talk things over. We decided to go ahead with the plan and ask if there was anything else she could do for us regarding parking and move-in costs.
I'm pretty sure she was prepared for us to come back with requests, because as soon as I said something, she offered us a year of free parking and six months of free storage. Then she offered to waive the cleaning fee, which would bring the discount on our move-in costs to $450 which was pretty damn close to The Merrick!!!
So we took it. We filled out our applications right then and there, I got all of the concessions in writing, and then we went straight over to The Merrick and got our checks back (they hadn't processed them yet). Now we are waiting for our credit checks to clear, which should be done sometimes tomorrow, and then we'll have to bring in half of our deposit, and then... we're all set to move in on March 10th!!
We both feel so much better about this decision, and glad that everything worked out the way it did. I've never negotiated with landlords/managers before, nor have I ever lived in a building with any sort of amenities. I'm really, really excited.
Now we have a month to organize our things, sell what we need to sell, pack, and figure out all the logistics for our move. Brian plans on taking March 10th off and moving everything in that day... I'm wondering if I should do the same, but I also need to reserve March 12th because that's the day of my grad school interview, should I be selected to have one. On top of that, my brother is coming to visit on the 11th. What a crazy week that will be!! But I'm looking forward to it :)

so you can have your own washer and dryer instead of using a laundry room? Does the apt come with a washer and dryer? I'm still so sad about Luna though. Jack said to send her out to us on a plane:)
yes, the washer and dryer is IN THE APARTMENT! in the bathroom :) yay!!!!!
oh, and we thought about buying her a plane ticket to NH...
Wow...what a week for both of you. I am excited for you and hope that everything works out. It looks like a really nice apartment and it will be nice to be closer to more things that both of you like.
what's the plan for Luna?
