about us brian (country mouse) is from new hampshire. karel (city girl) is from the new york metro area. in summer 2008 they drove across the US and moved to portland, oregon. here are their adventures, photos, and observations.
I just realized that it's been 2 weeks since I made a post here. A good reason for this is that we have had 2 guests here recently.
First Karel's brother came back but this time it was work related reasons and not just personal. There was no balut eating though, I would have participated easily enough if it had happened.
Now a college friend of Karel's is here for a whole week! She actually arrived Thursday and is leaving this coming Thursday morning. So being polite Karel and I have strayed from some of our usual activities to accommodate the guests. Although right now Karel is sleeping and our visitor is next to me on the couch (on the other end if you're wondering just how close) reading. I felt it necessary to update here since it's been so long and I didn't want to wait any longer.
Take a good look at this squirrel and see it's pain. Prior to today I had only seen this deformity on cats.
It appears that I forgot to show these pictures I took back on Feb. 24th of some blacktail deer. All girls and all didn't seem to mind me as they chewed some grass.
The weather our here has been CRAP!! It's been cloudy and rainy for so long I've forgot just how long this horrible weather has been punishing Portland. A quick example of just how crazy it is for you. I was playing kickball 3 Sunday's ago in shorts and tshirt because it was about 50 outside and only partly cloudy. 1 lonely cloud passes over us and suddenly it's hailing. Yes balls of hail about the size of Nerds candy fell from the sky. Then I swear the temperature quickly dropped to 35 and got windy. Then it rained. Many days the sun pokes out for just a short moment in between all the dismal clouds and rain. But there have been too many days where the sun is never visible and it stinks! I hope this stops soon and we get some days of sunshine.
This past Sunday I met 2 new people from a mountain biking meetup group and went on a great ride in Washington. I was so exhausted when I got home I had to sleep for a couple hours. And oh yes, it poured oceans of rain the whole time. My jacket got so saturated the water began to seep through the jacket. Guess I need to buy a better quality jacket. But I had a great time and I know another nice place to ride far out in the woods away from everything.
Final news for today. This Sunday at 2pm immediately following another kickball game I have signed up to participate in the first annual pinball tournament at Ground Kontrol Classic Arcade here in downtown Portland. The winner takes home a pinball machine and other prizes are available too! The arcade is great. They have 26 pinball machines and a bunch of classic arcade games all for cheap (nothing is above 50 cents). I'm excited because this Sunday is going to be great!
If you're wondering about Karel she is alive.

Hi. Sounds like you are keeping busy and having fun. I warned you about the winter weather out there :) but it should get better soon and then you should have many days of sun and warm weather. Have fun but stay safe and good luck in the pinball tournament. Love you.
